NEW IDEAS USE OLD BUILDINGS

The Luminary has announced plans to purchase a 22,500 square foot former variety store on Cherokee Street that will become a unique incubator for the arts in the city. The new space will include:

  • Expanded gallery space to showcase immersive work from some of the most prominent contemporary artists working today.
  • Expanded venue space to host more concerts and events
  • On-site housing and studios for international artists-in-residence
  • Support for startup arts organizations
  • Classroom and workshop space for the AV artist equipment library
  • A public research library archiving alternative spaces and projects
  • Creative retail featuring artist editions, artist books, independent designers and art supplies.

In the past 4 years, The Luminary has quickly developed into a world-class cultural organization, presenting artwork from the collection of MoMA and The Guggenheim, launching numerous acclaimed projects with international reach (FORM being one of them) and attracting residency applicants from 15 countries across 5 continents. Our new permanent location will be a unique asset in the region as an incubator for art, music and cultural projects, bringing together diverse resources and public events into one fluid location.

We have a campaign before us that will alter the future of the creative community in St. Louis. Consider joining us in this exciting initiative.
